Frequently asked questions
Short answers about the site, your data and the tools. Can’t find yours? Write to us.
The site
Is itbench.tools free?
Yes. Every tool is free, with no account and no paywall. If ads are ever added to cover hosting, they will never sit above a calculator or get in its way.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for, and everything that works today will keep working anonymously.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Open a tool in any modern browser, on a computer or a phone, and it works.
Which languages are available?
English, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish. Each language has its own address, so a link you share opens in the same language for whoever receives it.
Your data
What happens to what I type?
It stays in your browser. Every calculation runs on your device; nothing you enter is sent to our servers or to anyone else’s.
What does the site store on my device?
Two preferences, in your browser’s local storage: your theme (light, dark or system) and your language. No cookies are set.
How do share links work?
Your design is written into the part of the link after #. Browsers never send that part to the web server, so it reaches only the people you give the link to.
Anyone who has the link can see the design, so share it as carefully as you would share the data itself.
Do you use analytics or ads?
Not at the moment: no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts. If that changes, the Privacy Policy will be updated before it does.
Subnet Calculator
Does it support IPv6?
Not yet. The Subnet Calculator works with IPv4 networks.
Why does a cloud subnet have fewer usable addresses?
Cloud providers reserve extra addresses in every subnet for their own services, such as the gateway and DNS. Pick a provider under Reserved addresses and the counts follow its rules; Reserved IP addresses in cloud subnets lists them.
How are /31 and /32 handled?
A /31 has two addresses, and on point-to-point links both are usable (RFC 3021). A /32 is a single address. Neither loses a network or broadcast address.
How do I save a design?
The design lives in the page address. Bookmark it, or copy it with Share. There is no copy on a server, so the link is the design.
PPI Calculator
How do I measure my screen?
Use the diagonal of the visible picture, corner to corner, without the bezel. Manufacturers list it in the specifications, usually in inches.
Is PPI the same as DPI?
Not quite. DPI counts dots of ink on paper; screens have pixels, so PPI is the accurate term. Pixel density explained covers the difference.
What PPI is sharp enough?
It depends on how far away you sit: a phone needs far more than a monitor to look equally sharp. The pixel density guide gives typical values.
